How to design your CV and the cover letter
When it comes to marketing, creative companies, fashion, designing, a Europass or similar CV could not get you the position you are running for!
Here are some tips and reasons on how to design a cool CV:
1) You differentiate yourself from the mass
Before getting an interview, your curriculum has to get the attention of your employers because of the high number of resumes they receive.
Having a creative CV would make you stand out in the crowd.
2) Show your creative skills
It is easier than it sounds, especially if you usually design.
One simple option could be to use Canva; plenty of cool and professional templates are freely available. But use only the tool you have used before.
- Keep it as simple as possible. Unless you are confident and sure about what you are doing, keep the typographic flourishes and fanciful design to a minimum. Do not show off your graphic skills too much, as it can annoy the reader.
3) Choose the right fonts
One of the most important things is to choose the right font. It’s always a good idea to stick with a simple and readable font.
4) Cover letter
As you know, most of the time when you apply for a job, your CV should be accompanied by a cover letter, so you need to write a good one using creative tools. You don’t need to write a novel, but it should be concise and informative.
5) Check your spelling
Even if you are applying for a designer job, it does matter how well you write. Grammar and spelling mistakes make you appear uneducated, lazy, or ignorant. Always double-check your spelling and grammar or ask another person to proofread it.
6) Create more than one resume
If you are planning to apply for more than one job, it's a good idea to create a couple of resumes with different designs.
